Right now we are packing for another trip to the City of a Thousand Spires. Mel is doing a rehearsal for her second annual undergraduate PR event (last time in Brussels). There are a few things that are different on this visit to Praha though, besides it being more business vs. pleasure.
- This time Melody isn’t pregnant.
- This time we KNOW that Melody isn’t pregnant.
- Um, this time we really hope that Melody isn’t pregnant!
- This time those few multiplying cells inside of Melody have transformed into a smiling, pooping, cooing little bundle of absolute lovable goober.
- This time it is me that is going to be carrying the baby, not mummy!
Yes, while Mel is organizing business cases I will be strolling Prague’s cobblestone streets, taking in the view from the castle and visiting with Smetana and Dvorák. On top of that, I’ll also have Arwyn strapped to my goulash-filled tummy and will be toting a backpack full of nappies, baby wipes, bottles, soothers, change towels, jolly jumpers, cribs, prams, buggies and stuffed animals (some talking at random).
Not that I mind of course. I mean, surely there are worse places in the world to spend a few days scoping out the most nappy-change-friendly clock towers. I’m also sure it’s not the first time the statues of Charles Bridge have witnessed a dirty diaper. They’ve been keeping a watchful eye over Prague for centuries. Surely they’ve seen it all, right? I doubt that me yelling “Clear the way folks, we’ve got a Class 5 dirty nappy on our hands here!” is going to cause them to topple back into the Vltava in terror.
Another difference between our visit one year ago and this one, is that we are not going home early! As hard as it is to admit, and as hard as it was for the hotel receptionist to understand at the time - we did go home a day early. (“Um, yes that is no problem to shorten your stay Mr. Wallis. Are you having a nice time?”). In fact we did have a nice time, but after two days zygote Wallis had experienced one too many bowls of goulash.
So a word to my fellow bloke. Don’t worry if you’re on a romantic weekend getaway and castles, cathedrals and beautiful medieval towns are getting the missus a bit grouchy. She’s probably just pregnant! Anyway, here's hoping that the next few days are "uneventful"... |
