Recently, New York Magazine rated the British Capital the world’s coolest city. You might think that quite the compliment coming from New York; but to that we say, “Tell us something we didn’t know!” Here’s our own list (in no particular order) of the things we think are cool about London.
Places to visit 1. Tower Bridge 2. St. Paul’s 3. Tower of London 4. Westminster and Big Ben 5. The Thames 6. Greenwich 7. Piccadilly Circus 8. Leicester Square 9. Covent Garden 10. South Bank 11. Trafalgar Square 12. Hyde Park 13. Camden Town 14. St. Katherine’s Dock
Food to eat 1. Pizza Express 2. Wagamama 3. Sunday roast (roast beef with Yorkshire pud and all the fixins’) 4. Gourmet Burger Kitchen 5. Eat 6. Gaucho Grill 7. A “proper fry-up” (aka, full English breakfast) 8. sticky toffee pudding 9. banoffee pie 10. fish and chips 11. English lemonade
Things to do 1. Pretending to be a tourist and going on a rickshaw bike ride 2. Walking along the South Bank 3. Driving across Tower Bridge with the sunroof open 4. Catching a flight on the London Eye 5. Coming out of Westminster tube station, looking up and seeing Big Ben 6. Going to the local cheese shop and re-enacting the Monty Python skit 7. Picnics in Greenwich Park 8. Thames river cruise from Greenwich to Tower Bridge to Westminster 9. Antagonizing football hooligans 10. Trainspotting, hopping, or just riding 11. Finding Canadian items in the grocery store (oops – that goes on the *Least* Favourite Experiences list) 12. Tea and biscuits after Gospel meeting 13. Pretending to be a form of art in the Tate Modern 14. Pastries and coffee at a local café on Saturday mornings 15. Pretending to show genuine interest in completely unaffordable items at Harrods. “Excuse me miss, but do these £600 Burberry pants come in 35x35? No? Pity…” 16. Grocery shopping at Waitrose Canary Wharf 17. Charging the heavily armed guards at Number Ten. Best while shouting and flailing your hands above your head. 18. Toasted paninis at a sidewalk cafe
That’s our little list though – you might have your own to add. Five years ago, Lonely Planet described London as “a joyless, decaying city.” In its most recent edition, it describes this same place as: “sailing high on a wave of determination, optimism and glee. More to offer tourists than any other European city. Most fashion-forward, ethnically diverse and artistically pioneering cultural centre, offering the best in history and tradition alongside glittering modern architecture.”
Anyway, if you want to see for yourself then come visit! We are currently taking bookings for anytime after June 30th. (Priority given to those with babysitting experience. Scratch that -- if you can change nappies, you're in).

Dear Jason,
We appreciate your interest in a stay at Wallis Cottage. In order for us to proceed with your application to the next level, could you please provide some references. We would like to speak with at least two babies between the ages of 3 - 12 months for whom you have changed nappies. This will not be a technical interview but we would like to enquire about the success of your nappy changings, especially in relation to any nappy rashes that may have resulted.
Kind regards, Wallis.ca Management Team (in close association with the Wallis.ca Nappy Changing Team). |

Dear Claire,
We appreciate your comments regarding the coolness of the city of London. We might kindly suggest that in order for your opinion of the city to improve, you may want to consider spending some time *away* from Elephant and Castle ;-) ;-)
Kind regards, The Wallis.ca Marketing Team. |
