Funny the things that trigger memory flash-backs. Often it’s through hearing an old song that you’ve associated with a past event or time. Every time you hear that song, all the memories and feelings of a past life come flooding back. Or a scent... like last week as I was pulling ferns out of the garden. The smell of broken ferns instantly transported me back to a cottage memory, when as little boys my brother and I paved our way through the ferns in the forest like two great adventurers.

This week, it was getting in touch with an old friend through Facebook (thanks JM!). Getting in touch with someone from the conferencing and gallivanting days of uni (the painful memories of all-nighters in the CS labs are permanently blocked out), I suddenly remembered the url of the homepage I created just after graduation. And guess what – it’s STILL THERE! Eeeek! This is before the days of supersi.com, a couple of years before the likes of wallis.ca, and many years before anything .co.uk-related.

I gingerly opened up the time capsule and took a peek. As I browsed the pages of a site I had created but hadn’t viewed in almost a decade, I came to realize (with great embarrassment) what a web pioneer I was. I mean, annoying midi music playing in the background, Shockwave Flash splash pages, notices about compatibility with Netscape Navigator 3.0, Java applets to put a water-reflection under a 17-years-old picture of my then-girlfriend Melody. My resume at the time sported such in-demand technologies as “HTML” and “Microsoft Access”. Man was I ever cutting-edge!

So, if you’re in the mood for some snazzy Flash, midi music, a guestbook not signed since 2000, and some pictures of yours truly dating back to high school days, then point your browser here (warning, you may need to downgrade to IE v3 or earlier).

Memory lane can be (embarrassingly) painful…

That's just down right scary. My kids just looked at some of the pics with me and commented that "you sure looked a lot different back then!" No kidding. Didn't we all?
