Well, as the best man in Mark’s (Mel’s brother’s) wedding, it came to me to organize the bachelor party. So what does one do in New Brunswick for a fun (and clean) guys’ night out, I wondered. Being across the ocean in London at the time, I turned to Google to get some ideas. I collected a rock solid set of suggestions from the search results and sent them across to the invitees: 1) rent a mechanical bull and have a rodeo, 2) hire a stage hypnotist, 3) rent a set of inflatable moon bounces, 4) go cow-tipping, 5) play outdoor paintball, 6) go to a hockey game.
I was a little bewildered as one-by-one, all my awesome ideas got shot down, except for one… and so off to the arena we went. The game was actually really good for minor league hockey. The Saint John Sea Dogs home team was hosting the only US team in the league: the Lewiston MAINEiacs (also considered the best team in the league). It had pretty much every element of a good hockey game… goals, saves, penalties, a penalty shot, several “offensive encounters”. Unfortunately the Maineiacs broke the tie with 3 seconds to go, so the home team didn't win this time :(
We went to dinner beforehand and presented Mark with a “guy’s gift”. As much as I’m sure Mark would like to complete the set of china on his (I mean, *Melissa's*) registry, we wanted to get him something at least *we* thought was cool, so we decided on a digital camera. But in order to keep the camera, we made him wear a clown wig and cheer for the opposing team during the game. He got off a bit easy though, as our seats just happened to be placed in the middle of a bunch of fans up from south of the border.
Anyway, it was a fun night out, and good to celebrate bud’s last few days of bachelorhood. Six more till the Big Day!
