I had a rather amusing phone message on our answering service when I got home last night. “Hi Simon. We haven’t met, but I’m living in the penthouse upstairs and have known your landlord for a couple of years now. The reason I’m calling is that we’ve just bought a new Ferrari and it turns out to be too big for our parking spot. I noticed that your spot is extra large and wondered if we could arrange a trade somehow.” Not sure whether she meant trading cars or parking spaces, I thought I had better return the call to clarify.
I have to admit that I did notice the “new Ferrari” when I parked last night. Kind of hard to miss really! A brand new 2006 red F430, which apparently had been on order for two years. I didn’t know they were so big though. I suppose this *is* England, and in a country where everything is somewhat miniaturized, it shouldn’t be too surprising that a Ferrari would have trouble fitting in a parking spot. After all, the engine itself is probably the same size as our whole car. The 25 inch rims likely don’t help, either.
But that would really stink, wouldn’t it? Imagine spending a few hundred thousand quid on a sports car and then realizing it wouldn’t fit in its parking space. I really can sympathize though. Indeed, we ourselves had purchased Tiberias and then found we couldn’t get any parking whatsoever. It must be that much worse with a Ferrari, and it just goes to show, that no matter how hard your circumstances are, there’s always someone else who is worse off than yourself. Let that be a word of encouragement to everyone.
The best part about it? We’ve made some new friends in our building, and taking me for a spin is part of the swap deal! Woo hoo! |

| So, when do you start driving the ferrari? I hope you got some other compensation as well, the ferrari will use a lot more petrol. |

| Yes, the additional compensation was quite good. They even paid for counselling for our car. It developed a severe inferiority complex after having been booted out of its space by a Ferrari. Don't think it'll ever be the same again, sadly. |
